Honestly, this has been a long-overdue back-burner project. As a longtime Sacramento resident, I’ve taken this city for granted. I’ll blame it on being young and dumb to cope.
We have such a rich and diverse community, and I’ve always felt you can see that reflected in our restaurant scene. Let me say this: Sac is filled with places to eat. It’s beautiful for your taste buds and horrible for the waistline. You can find amazing burgers and some of the best pho king spots in California. Heck, I’ll even challenge the other states. ;)
But Sacramento is more than a great meal. There are local businesses, charities, and event organizers doing things worth knowing about, and it isn’t always easy to find them. SacLocals is my way of helping them connect with more residents, while giving locals and visitors a place to discover what’s happening around them.
In a selfish way, SacLocals is also a journal of the people, events, and businesses that come and go in this area. Places close, new ones open, and some come and go way too fast. Maybe they had their reasons to close, or maybe they just needed more people nearby to know they existed. If SacLocals helps even one resident connect with a local group, event, or business and something good comes of it, that’s amazing.
I want this to be a useful resource, but it won’t be all-knowing, and it can’t be. I’m bound to miss things, details change, and sometimes I’ll get things wrong. A listing here doesn’t mean I’ve personally visited or vetted a business unless I say so. Even when I share my own experience, yours may be different. Please double-check the details that matter to you and do your own homework before making plans, hiring someone, or spending money.
You’ll find places to eat, businesses to check out, organizations doing good work, and events that give you an excuse to get out of the house. If you spot something that’s out of date or know of something that should be here, let me know through the contact page. I’d like to keep adding to this and make it better as I go.
This isn’t a social platform, and I’m not trying to tell you there’s only one “best” way to experience Sacramento. I hope SacLocals helps you get more out of the city and contributes, even a little, to keeping this region special.
I choose which places, organizations, and events to include based on what I think locals and visitors will find useful. Listings marked “Featured” or “Sponsored” may be paid placements. Everything else is included at my discretion. If a place has closed or something has changed, please tell me through the contact page and I’ll update or remove it.
